Serve scotch properly

By Julie Henry

For some, serving scotch is an art

For those who take scotch seriously, serving it is an important part of the experience. While it's true that each encounter is personal, if you are serious about becoming a scotch connoisseur, knowing how to serve it properly is a must.

Scotch, or scotch whisky, comes in four categories: single-malt, vetted malt, blended and single grains. Growing in popularity, single-malt scotch is not reserved just for the rich anymore.

The term "single malt scotch" is reserved for a spirit that is made of malted barley liquor and is distilled and aged at a single distillery in Scotland. After being distilled, the whisky is then stored in oak barrels for three to five years before it's available for consumption.

Serve Scotch in Snifters

Traditionally, scotch is served in cognac snifters. Smaller than a wine glass, the snifter is important to serving scotch properly thanks to its wide mouth, which makes it easy to drink. In addition, the mouth of a cognac snifter has a slight taper to help focus the aroma.

Cognac snifters also have a wide handgrip, which allows the drink to be warmed, opening it up and making the most of its flavor. The clear glass of a cognac snifter is preferred so the liquid can be seen and appreciated.

While serving scotch in a cognac snifter is most acceptable, scotch glasses, designed specifically with this spirit in mind, are also available. These glasses are slightly taller than cognac snifters but have a similar design. Serious sippers would say that this dignified drink deserves a glass of its own.

"Learning how to serve scotch is part of the drinking experience"

A dead crash landing ... About October 6th, 2011. 11:09am. WED.

On the way to work I found a dead Dragonfly... Then a block later, A red tailed Hawk crash landed on me from a tree; hard. I gather the hwak was swooping down on its pray and missed, When it fell out of the tree I broke it's fall with my body. For sure If I wasnt there the hawk would be dead.

Symbolism of Dragonflies

As a creature of the wind, the dragonlfy totem represents change. It's iridescent wings are incredibly sensitive to the slightest breeze, and so we are reminded to heed where the proverbial wind blows - lest we run into stormy weather.

Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and any creature whose habitat is in, or around water carries symbolism relative the the subconscious, or "dreaming" mind and thoughts.

This is because in the animal world, water is symbolic of the subconscious mind ("deeper mind," "dreaming mind") and relates to the thoughts we have in relaxed/meditative/sleeping/subconscious states.

Prosperity, good luck, strength, peace, harmony and purity

We take these indications from observing the hawk in nature. Here we see the hawk has tremendous vision. Their eyesight is phenomenal and a key factor in their incredible hunting abilities.

Here the hawk is a message for us to keep our eyes (both physical & spiritual) keen on the areas that most require our attention. Specifically, the hawk beckons us to hone our focus on the areas that are out of balance in our lives. Recognition is the first step to solution.

We derive the essence of power, energy and intensity just by visually appreciating the hawk. Consider its powerful beak and impressive talons.

It's steely stare and intense focus also contribute to the aura of power the hawk holds. As such, the hawk asks us to be aware of the power each of us has over others.

Further, we must each respect our potential positions of authority (leadership) and honor all those with whom we interact. It is abhorrent to the hawk's spirit when we are careless with our power (or worse, dominating, arrogant or mean) when dealing with others.

Furthermore, the hawk is a solar animal which makes it kin to all the attributes summed up by fire and sun. Attributes such as brilliance, clarity, energy, and unification.

In dreams, hawks represent our yearning for freedom and clarity and is often considered a message from the subconscious to use our intellectual power to obtain the freedom we desire in lives.

After the ceremony and some cake, he left for brooklyn to a party in the rainy friday night. But he (Naldo) like a parent leaving his kid at a bus station, left his cue-case behind as he went off to his trip. I found the cue-case hours later all by its lonesome. I showed my friends my find, Then that's when it happened, that's when.... we all did sexual things to it..

Research has identified some other ways to influence mental performance:

Omega-3s are known to be particularly crucial constituents of the outer membrane of brain cells. It is through the fat-rich cell membrane that all nerve signals must pass. In addition, as learning and memory forge new connections between nerve cells, new membranes must be formed to sheathe them. All brain cell membranes continuously need to refresh themselves with a new supply of fatty acids. A growing amount of research suggests that the omega-3s are best suited for optimal brain function.

Sugar can make you sharp-although no one can figure out what is the right dose at the right time.
Carbohydrates-especially when eaten with no protein or fat-may indeed be mentally soothing. Muzak for the mind. There are times when we all need some of that......
